The last stop on on the Europe22 trip is 5 nights in Rome. We didn’t really plan much before we got there because we have been there before and know our way around the big attractions. But this was a little problem because many of the places required buying advance tickets a couple weeks in advance. The Coliseum, Roman forum, and the Vatican Museums with the Sistine Chapel all were sold out. In 2012 we visited all those places and didn’t really need to see them again. We were able to see the Roman forum and the coliseum from the outside and got some pretty good pictures.
The first day we did a long walk around town and saw the bridges and fountains and just be amazed by looking at old stuff everywhere… Rome is really an amazing place. We had been seeing old Roman stuff in other towns but in Rome it is just everywhere. The piazzas and old buildings make it seem almost like a theme park and sometimes you forget it is a real city. Although, there were a lot of people around even though it is late November.
Since we didn’t get in to some of the big attractions, we were able to see a lot of the museums that we didn’t get to last time. We saw the Borghese museum and the National Museum of Rome and we learned a little more about Roman history and art. Lots of paintings, statues, frescos, mosaics, and stone heads.
We have been on the road a long time and are ready to come home for a bit. We miss our family and friends so we have decided to spend the holidays in Seattle. Just arrived in Seattle today and are back to the cold and rain. Our bags were lost in Frankfort so the walk from the light rail station home was a little uncomfortable wearing just a long sleeve shirt. Bags are now found and we should get them in a couple of days.
Next trip is to South East Asia starting in January when we will be really ready to get out of the Seattle rain. Still working on details but we should have plans done soon. Stay tuned!
