The past 10 years or so I have ridden 2500-4000 miles per year and learned a lot about bike infrastructure around Seattle. This blog was a place for me to write about bike routes, trail construction and also a place to share my rides. I have commuted to work by bike for years and that is going to be changing this Spring. I am going to stop going to work :>) Friday February 25th will be my last day in the office and I will officially retire in Late April.
Biking is still going to be a big part of my life but I have found myself not as interested in keeping up with the Seattle bike news lately. My focus is on our future life of retirement which is going to include a lot of travel. We are hoping to be traveling 5-9 months per year and only being in Seattle for the summer and maybe the winter holidays. I often bike on vacation and have made several posts on biking while on the road and I will continue to do that. But I will also use this blog to document our travels. I want to share the places we go, the food we eat and are new life of slow travel. We have always traveled a lot but now we have time to stay in other countries a little longer and really live in a different culture. Instead of just seeing the sites in a place for a couple of days, we want to be doing some month long stays.
In addition to retirement, we are also buying a new house in Columbia City and moving off of Beacon Hill. When we moved to Beacon 4 years ago from the suburbs, we decided to rent instead of buy to make sure we like the city life. We ended up really like being in the city so we have spent the last couple of years searching for the perfect place on Beacon Hill. It has not been easy because of the housing shortage and the up bidding of every place we liked. Last year we found a new townhome in Columbia City that is still under construction. Even though we are going to miss our beautiful Beacon Hill city view, we are really excited to be a part of Columbia City. I haven’t found a better name than Beacon Bill yet so I might just keep that nickname. I will still be there a lot- only 2 light rail stops away.
Our house will be complete in April, after we move in and make it our own for a few weeks, we will start on our dream of nomadic living. Not sure where we will end up in May and June because our move in date is still up up in the air, so we can’t safely book anything. We are planning a Europe trip to Croatia and Italy this fall and maybe a trip to back to Southeast Asia in winter 2023.
Our first trip is going to be back to Bucerias, Mexico in March. We spent a month there last year “working from home” during the pandemic. My next post will be from there. Vamonos.
