The Riverton Creek has been emptying into the Duwamish from a pipe for many years. The city of Tukwila is installing a bridge to daylight the creek before it goes into the river. Last year, they closed the trail for several months working on creating a creek bed and preparing for a bridge. Tom from Seattle Bike Blog wrote about it here. They didn’t finish last year so they opened the trail again for the Winter while the bridge was being fabricated. It is now time to install the bridge so the trail will be closed starting July 13th through sometime in September.
The detour is to ride on S. 112th St. and East Marginal Way which isn’t too bad. The other option is to ride all the way up on East Marginal Way (but there is a lot of construction still so I wouldn’t advise that) or go on Airport Way (but they have closed perimeter road so you need to ride most of the way with scary fast cars). I wrote about that here.
Here are some pics of where the bridge is going to go. A back hoe showed up today (July 12th) so it should be happening soon.
The Tukwila project manager will let me know more about the schedule as the project goes on and I will update the blog post.
