Koh Tao is a island about the physical size of Anderson Island or Shaw Island in Washington state with only a few thousand people living fulltime on it. The only business is tourism, and the island is filled with backpackers and tourists escaping the cold of their countries for some days in the sun. Not much to do here and we are trying to get used to it. We usually like to see the attractions when we are traveling, so are usually on the go go go all the time. But the hectic traveling life can get tiring so we are trying to book longer stays. This trip, we are doing a lot of 1 week stays but eventually we want to find places to stay a month or longer. But this is our first Thailand trip, so we are really on a scouting mission to see what islands we like best. So far, Koh Tao is high on our list. (Of course it is only the first of many islands we will visit). It is pretty scenic. We didn’t do that much on the island, but I have a lot of good pics.
One day, we did take a snorkeling tour of the island. We did a short hike up to a lookout and beach strolling on some picturesque islands just off shore, and then went to some other beaches to snorkel with turtles, reef sharks and lots of fish. The turtles are HUGE here and one of our guides took some pictures for us with his fancy water camera.
Eating on the island is almost as cheap as what we seeing in other places in Thailand even though the views are amazing. We tried to eat on the beach in the sand as much as possible, and try as many new things as we could. We kept seeing a “No Name” dish on the menus so we decided to try that. It was corn and vegetable deep fried fritters that were pretty good.
Not much else to write about because we didn’t do much here. Swimming on the beach, swimming in the pool, kayaking, and eating were about it. The sunsets were pretty nice too.
Next stop – another island – Koh Samui.
