We have company again! My brother Gerrit and wife Sarah were able to plan a Costa Rica trip the same time we were here and stayed with us in Montezuma for a few days. It was fantastic to have someone else to talk to for a while and G and S are very compatible travel partners for us. Staying away from family for months is so much easier when we are able to have visits like this. We will definitely find a way to meet up again in other countries.
Montezuma was the smallest Costa Rican town we have stayed in. There were just a few restaurants and one grocery store on a small dirt road “downtown”. Not much to do… so we didn’t do much, except watch nature. The waves were too big for swimming in the ocean but it was such a beautiful coastline with some great tide pools so we didn’t mind just taking some fantastic pictures. We did find a river swimming hole next to a beach that helped us cool off a bit. The 75 degree river water was more refreshing than the 85 degree ocean. There was also a waterfall swimming hole that took some hiking/scrambling to get to. More good pics.
What I am going to remember most about Montezuma is the wildlife that we encountered. Our deck seemed to have constant visitors. Coatis, Agoutis, racoons, parrots, iguanas and other lizards all stopped by but our favorites were the monkeys. We had a couple of hours on most afternoons watching Capuchin and Howler monkeys. The Capuchins came right up to the deck and gave us quite a show. I can watch monkeys all day. I got some good videos but my pictures don’t look as good because the monkeys just won’t sit still.
Not too many new birds in Montezuma but my life list is now up to 473 with some hope that I might hit on our last Costa Rican stop- Quepos and Manual Antonio National Park. We will be looking for Scarlet Macaws!!! and more monkeys!!!
