I feel like I need to do a blogpost every week to let my family know where I am. Sometimes we don’t do much, so I don’t have much to say. Those that haven’t retired yet, are not super excited about seeing pictures of beaches and sunsets. Sorry :>) We have been traveling fairly fast this fall so I have been able to tell stories about a new place each week. We need some downtime, so we return to Mexico. Besides enjoying the warm weather, we just feel comfortable in Mexico. Puerto Escondido is a new town for us but it felt similar to many of the other places we have been in Mexico. We have spent more time in Mexico than any other country since we retired in 2022. It is just a time to sit on the beach and watch sunsets… so here is a few from the 3 weeks we spent in Puerto Escondido.

OK, we didn’t exactly do nothing for 3 weeks. We happened upon some more surprise festivals. We saw a folk dance show with a huge carnival. We experienced a school kids parade for Revolution Day. We went on a fantastic bird watching tour to Lagoon Manialtepec with 74 species and 10 new lifers. And we finished our week witnessing a fishing derby that came with fireworks and its own Mexican party.

We stayed in some beautiful condos overlooking the ocean in an area that was mixed between locals, Gringo Expats, and Mexican tourists. We visited the beaches but they weren’t perfect. Some were filled with surfers and huge waves, some were filled fishing boats and some were fantastic swimming beaches that also came with a huge walks down the cliffs and were filled with overpriced beach restaurants wanting to rent out their beach loungers. We mostly hung out on our balcony or the pool overlooking the ocean. We spent time watching the sailfish, dolphins and whales and the tourist boats that chased them. As we have seen in other towns, Mexican whale watching boats generally do not follow the rules in terms of keeping a safe distance away, it’s hard to watch. Besides, having fantastic views, the apartments were also huge, and each had 2 bedrooms. Next time we come here, we hope to convince some family and friends to join us.

After this time to recharge our batteries, I bet some of you are assuming we are heading back into more adventures… Nope. we are heading back to Bucerias for some more Mexican beach time. We have a lot of new places coming up in 2026 so we are preloading our “recharging”. I have some other pics below from PE that didn’t fit in above, but I still want to share.
